I have some exciting news regarding ‘A Portrait of Argentina'. This morning, an angel backer threw down the gauntlet. If I can get $2,000 in pledges by midnight tomorrow, he will match it. If you have been considering a contribution, your affect is doubled if you act now.
A few more noteworthy developments:

- ‘A Portrait of Argentina' was selected as a “staff pick” on Kickstarter.
- >Seattle Backpacker Magazine ran a series of photos I took in preparation for the trip.
- Pamela Slim talked about the project in her video blog.
- Together we have raised over $14,000 towards this project.
- Almost 90 backers have pledged on kickstarter and many more are donating their time and energy behind the scenes to bringing life to this vision.
Last weekend, I took part in a seminar at the university in Córdoba.
One of the participants made the observation that ‘norteamericanos' as we are known, are much more individualistic. We tend to think we should do things on our own. Argentinos on the other hand, are more group oriented. Everything is a team project.
I am probably the poster-child of ‘I have to do this on my own'. So this project has already pushed me outside of my comfort zone. Truthfully, it shoved me kicking and screaming. And do you know what? It's actually not so bad. I get nervous and scared, but already the benefits far outweigh the risk. By leaving my comfort zone, and asking for help, I have learned the obvious: I can't do this on my own. This is not my project, it is a collaborative project. As I share the idea people get excited and give me ideas and referrals. The project is enriched by these contributions.
So I am asking for everyone's help. I'm asking for your financial support openly in the hope that you give it freely, not out of obligation but because you see the value of the project. Forward this email or share the project with friends who would be interested. Help me make this idea a reality.
This is a journey to discover Argentina and to learn about it from the people who know it best. It is a reflection of the passion and conviction that guides and inspires us. I will seek out Argentina’s cultural leaders, the innovators who dedicate their lives to creating positive change. Scientists, Engineers, Dancers, Actors, Athletes, Musicians, Teachers, Environmentalists, and yes, other Artists. I will collect their stories, paint their portraits and share them with you.
