Carnaval in Susques

We left Cafayate yesterday morning, drove through Salta and slept outside of a gas station in Guemes. Not as bad as it sounds, the car is quite comfortable and we were safe and sound. Today we drove north into Jujuy past Purmamarca where they were setting up for Carnaval. We left in the afternoon, and continued northwest on the road to Chile. We stopped at Salinas Grandes, a huge salt flat that is just beautiful. We made it to Susques just in time for the start of the Carnaval, and maybe a half hour before it started pouring rain. The altitude hit me so we found a warm cozy place with internet and pupusa tea (which does wonders for altitude sickness).

Not my most interesting post, but hey, Im still a little queasy. Have a look at the photos….

We bought peanuts from this woman in Purmaraca. She is 105 years old. She said she has a headache, and was wondering how much longer she’ll be here.
