As we drove alongside the Andes mountain range in the province of Mendoza, train tracks that followed the road (actually its probably the other way around) dipped in and out of sight. It became more and more obvious that the tracks are no longer used as we got higher in the mountains. We passed sections that were buried under boulders, collapsed steel tunnels and abandoned train stations. Inevitably near the train stations, we'd see another set of abandoned buildings- small towns or settlements that had been dependent on the train line to bring an income.
